Articles

I've been rather prolific writing articles, but here are two of my favorites...

Peterson Journal for Teaching Nature Education

After attending a fantastic “Writing from Nature” workshop (Pennsylvania) cosponsored by the Highlights Foundation and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, I was inspired to write an article, Highlighting Senses, about the incredible experience. The article and five of my photos were published in the Peterson Journal for Teaching Nature Education (Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History) in June 2006 (USA & Canada). I highly recommend this workshop!

Dawson Community News
I enjoyed my time as a Columnist, Photographer/Human Interest Journalist for the Dawson Community News (Georgia). I wrote TIPS, TRIPS & TITLES, a monthly column for homeschoolers and their parents, with recommendations for a themed fieldtrip, activity, and reviews of books for three age levels.

I was honored to have three issues of my Tips, Trips & Titles column nominated by the Dawson Community News for an editorial writing award in the Georgia Press Association Better Newspaper Contest in 2006.

Contests
I entered one of my favorite nonfiction picture book manuscripts, TINY FLIPPERS/FIRST STEPS,
in the Southern Breeze ’07 Writing Contest. It was judged by Arianne Lewin, Assistant Editor
at Hyperion Books in New York. It won 2nd Place! YEAH!!

Stories

I’ve also written numerous manuscripts for children’s picture books (in rhyme and prose/fiction and nonfiction), and middle grade nonfiction-photo essays. Topics include space travel, science, nature, exocentric children and even flying frogs. (They’re said to be a spectacular sight!) Now to find the magic potion to turn these stories into books…
